What do you mean, a new iPod? I got tons of music in there...
As you can maybe see, I'm pretty bored. Nothing has happened since the last update, except I've been watching a whole lot of The Shield (thanks to mah man, Niko!). Last night was pretty bad, since I got a real bad stomach ache because of all the sweets and chips that I got before christmas. I really do have a feeling they want me to return even chubbier that I am now.. so Johnny, we'll measure our bellies again in my comeback party, and YOU WILL LOSE THIS TIME!!
Since Henna hasn't updated her blog in AGES, I will let you in on a little secret - I have a really strong gut feeling that she'll come here soon :o either it's that, or the junk food is kicking my ass again. Seriously though, I've been waiting for it to happen for so long, and now that it seems that it could be reality in the not too distant future, I'm going nuts. That'd be sweeeeeet as hell. SWEEET I tell ya!
Ach, tomorrow's the New Years.. I don't have any plans yet. Maybe we'll head to the Quay with Lars, and take some pictures of the fireworks if there is one, and then head downtown. Right now I really couldn't care less to be honest :D I think I'd be happy even with the possibility of just staying home and relaxing. We will schee, we might be even going to schhing some karao-que?, schhome schhongs that we can achsstually ssching! Or not. Gotta just have an Andee-reference in there every once in a while.
I am tired of this writing nonsense, I will stop now.

Why is it that everytime I go out with Mr. Lederhosen, I end up walking in the slushy shitstorm for like two years? We were supposed to see The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button today, but the only showing was at 8.30. We were downtown at 3.30, so we had loads of time to spend before that. We had planned to show Bianca where her school was, since she'll be starting in there on monday (tomorrow). Lars wanted to take pictures in downtown, so we agreed that we'd meet at this hotel at 5.30.
When we walked to the bus stop with Bianca, she didn't want to go to the school! Great. Now we had to spend two hours downtown, with nothing to do while we waited for Lars to show up to the hotel.
Nothing interesting happened in those two hours.
At 5.30, the weirdest thing happened - a German guy was late! The whole Wehrmacht must be rolling over in their graves. Anyhoo, when we were all back together, Lars figured we should go and see the christmas lights in Stanley Park. I thought "Great, I wanted to see them before they take it down." He wanted to see the Burrard Bridge first, since it was the only bridge he hadn't seen in Van City. We started to walk, and I thought he'd walk us to a bus stop, where we could catch a bus to the bridge. Well no, we kept walking and walking and walking, until we got to the bridge. There was nothing, NOTHING, on the bridge. It was just a bridge. If I say bridge one more time, that's gotta be a record of some kind. Bridge. That's a game too, isn't it? I should learn to play it, since I got these cool Sponge Bob-playing cards from Brenda.
Anyway, after we left the bridge (there I go again), Lars said that he'd take us to Stanley Park now. Well, we started to walk. Again I got the idea that he'd take us to a bus stop, but yet again I was wrong. We walked, and walked, and walked. I felt so bad for Bianca, since she had these weird boots on, that are kinda like winter boots, but not quite so wintery after all. She was beat after the first half hours of walking, probably because she'd never seen snow in her life before the 23rd of december this year, much less walked in it.
At one point I asked Lars "How long till Stanley Park?" "About 15 minutes. It would take me 10 minutes, but I have to walk slower now that I walk with you."
After 40 minutes, we got to the edge of the park. After 15 more minutes, we got to the lights. They were pretty cool, but definately not cool enough to justify the freaking walking/swimming we did. I'll post some pictures tomorrow of the lights, so you can be the judges.
blahblah we got back home safely yaddayadda yeahyeah
Oh, I also bought a blueberry muffin and the best popcorn ever!
Needless to say, I didn't get to see the movie tonight :( I'm gonna go see it on my own for sure, since Mr. Sauerkraut was supposed to see it with me tonight. He failed me tonight, so I'll fail him some other day. HAH!

Alright, christmas is over. It wasn't a huge waste of time like I thought it would be. In fact, I ended up having a pretty good time.
We went out on the 24th with Pia and Manuel. Remember a few posts back how I said that the local transit system is on the plus side of things? Oh how wrong I was. I was supposed to meet Pia and the rest of the crew at the Waterfront Station by 6.30. My plan was to catch an early bus to the Seabus Station in North Van, and take the seabus straight to Waterfront. Well, I went to the bus stop around 5.45. Normally the buses come every 15 minutes, and it takes about 10 minutes to go to the seabus station. Also normally, when the bus gets to the station, we only have to wait like three minutes to get on the seabus, and then wait about 15 minutes as the seabus crosses the bay. That means that normally, I would've gotten on the 5.45 bus to Lonsdale Quay (the seabus station), then I would've taken the 6.00 seabus, and I would've been in Waterfront Station at 6.15. That would've given me 15 minutes to relax and have a coffee at the first Starbucks that was built in Vancouver (a cheap ad, I expect a free coffee now).
This wasn't a normal time though. See, when it had snown the last few days, the whole city went crazy. The buses didn't run on time, ambulances were stuck in the snow, and when a firetrucks came to help the ambulances, they got stuck in the snow as well, people were cranky, shoes got wet, 911 was probably busy the whole time, the streets weren't cleaned of the snow.. It was just ridicilous. This is Canada for crying out loud! It shouldn't get like this with a little bit of snow. I was laughing to myself how miserable and helpless these people looked like.. until I myself was miserable and helpless.
The bus didn't show up. I waited at the stop for 45 minutes, until I decided that I'd go back to the house and call Pia that I wouldn't be able to meet them for dinner and that I'd come to downtown later. Well, as if the bus mishap wasn't enough, I got a huge taste of this slushy snow crap when a big truck drove by me and drove right into a puddle of this watery goo, which of course sent the goo flying right on me. Great, now I was late and wet. I went back to the house, ate some unidentified rice thing, and headed out to downtown after 8 pm. We had a great time at the only bar that was open, but I was a little dissappointed that I was actually in a bar at christmas eve. I'd wondered before why would people go to a bar on the eve, and had actually swore to myself that I would never do that. Oh well, here's to me and my promises..
On the 25th, me and Lars showed the new Brazilian girl Bianca the downtown area. We walked around in the slush for probably 4-5 hours. After we got back to Lonsdale Quay, the buses were late again. We had planned to go back to the house, and change into something dry before we headed of to Delta, where Dave's relatives were celebrating Christmas Day. That was not meant to be, and so we had to just go straight to the party, after Dave and Brenda picked us up from the station. Awesome.
The party itself was pretty nice, the folks there were really nice. I had my first ever turkey dinner, and I kinda liked it. It was nothing compared to the Finnish christmas dinner though! Afterwards we ate this really weird christmas pudding thing, that was filled with all kinds of dried fruit and it actually looked more like crap than mämmi does. Eventhough I've never tasted crap in my life (and hopefully never will), I'd say that this taste was probably pretty close to the real thing. Thank god we don't have that in Finland.
Yesterday was the "most important shopping day in Canada" as the locals put it, Boxing Day. Me, Pia and Bianca went to the Metrotown mall in, well, Metrotown. The mall was probably as big as the whole of Finland, and there were probably at least a million and one people there. Almost all the stores had lines in front of them, and people got in when other people got out.. it was crazy. The whole mall was schorching hot, and my chosen apparel of a thick winter jacket, mittens and a woolly hat was a bit too much. Somewhere around the hour mark I realized that I was shopping with two girls.. F*CKBALLS. They both said that they didn't like shopping that much, but my joy was premature, as they circled around the shops like raiders of the lost ark, looking for that something special. In the end, after five hours of intense shopping, they had each had bought two shirts, Pia got a swimsuit and Bianca got a camera as well. Nothing more. FIVE HOURS OF SHOPPING, STANDING IN LINES AND WHAT NOT (that one's for Olli), AND ONLY A FEW ITEMS EACH. I would've needed five minutes, as I got myself an old school Canucks jersey, and a gift for Niko that I know he'll love :P our NHL-sessions will never be the same!
Gah, now I have to worry about the New Years Eve. I don't have any plans for it yet. The sucky thing is that the last buses to North Van leave somewhere after 1 am, so that kinda limits my plans. Also since it's the New Years, getting taxis will be impossible. I don't know, maybe I'll get some illegal fireworks from a Chinese sweatshop and blow up the house. That'd be neat. Or then I'll watch the Shield all night long! Speaking of that, I wanna say thanks once more to my dear PÖDC-crew for the care package, it was just awesome :) I have to return the favor somehow.
I'll continue with my Dark Knight, you go do your own thing. Oh by the way, you can see my pictures at http://s496.photobucket.com/albums/rr321/MiikaInCanada/

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL, I WISH YOU HAVE A GREAT TIME AND YOU ALL EAT WELL AND YOU KNOW, DO YOUR THING. MY CAPS LOCK KEY IS BROKEN, SO THAT'S WHY I'M WRITING THIS WAY.
And Johnny, come by anytime! ;) Also Niko, Henna and the rest of the PÖDC-krew, you have to book your flights asap!
A random note, a guy came up to me today on the seabus and asked me if I was in the band CKY. Also the other day some dudes just broke into a Flight Of The Conchords-song in the middle of the street. This town is awesome in a weird, weird way.

Well, it's been a while since the last update. Like I said in the very first entry, it gets like this everytime for me :D so from now on, don't expect updates every day. They'll come when they're ready. I get so lazy sometimes (all the time), and this feels like work. We'll see what happens in the future.
Anyhoo, this weekend has been a bit pointless. I haven't done anything special, if I don't count the chats I had with Henna and Niko and Johnny, which are of course always special :P in addition to those chats, I've mostly been freezing in my room and wishing it'd be christmas already. I'm kinda feeling like this'll be the crappiest christmas ever, since I heard a rumour that Brenda and Dave are going to visit their relatives somewhere, and we won't be invited. Great. That means that I'll most probably be at the house, eating cereal and watching cartoons the whole christmas. I could go to downtown, but I doubt there's anything special on christmas day, since everyone's celebrating somewhere. Ha-freaking-ha. I might as well pull that allnighter that I was supposed to do last night, but I had to let Henna down since my arm was itching like crazy and I just wanted to go to sleep so I wouldn't feel the itch. I'm such a pussy :D
I walked around downtown today though. It's been snowing like crazy for the last few days, and I hear this is almost unheard of in Vancouver. I must've brought the snowstorms with me, niiiice! At least we get a white christmas in here as well (I don't wanna mention the fact that it'll be raining probably in a week, and all the snow's gonna melt away and don't come back until next winter, if then). It was pretty fun to just walk around without any hurry, and see a little more of the downtown area that I've seen thus far. I almost got a bit scared since I found myself in the area that wikitravel describes with some nice words:
"The Downtown Eastside is a dangerous area at night for those not familiar with Vancouver, an area of homelessness, drug-use, and prostitution. One should avoid touring this area, but if you accidentally stroll in it is not difficult to find your way out. The "Downtown Eastside" includes Chinatown and tourists are advised to avoid Chinatown after 7/8pm - There is an extremely limited number of shops and almost no restaurants open after that time. The owners seem to close early to avoid any spill over trouble from the Hastings Street Area."
Indeed, I accidentally strolled into the area, and immediately recognized it as the infamous Hastings-area. There were some characters, let me tell you.. in the two block area that I walked through, I saw a woman beating a dude, a bunch of junkies in a cozy looking huddle and an old guy who kinda looked like Santa throwing snowballs into a pub window. I think I'll avoid the area from now on.
I might as well list some things I like and dislike about Canada/BC/Vancouver. The list will definately grow in the following months, but this is the situation so far.
I like:
- The scenery. It's beautiful up in this joint (Johnny, un-street wise?? WHAT?!). The mountains, the sea.. it's all good.
- The people. The people in general are really nice in here.
- The intercultural atmosphere. I love the fact that there are people from everywhere in the city. It's like NYC, although with about a million more Asians. Hongcouver, indeed.
- The transit system. It's very well done, and you can count on the fact that the buses, the seabus and the skytrain run smoothly and on time. It's also very cheap, at least if you're used to the Kuopio prices..
I dislike:
- Shopping. If something says it costs $9.99, you can't go to the counter with a ten dollar bill, oh no. The labels only tell you the store price, they don't tell you the actual price, taxes included. It's so confusing.
- The toilets. 'nuff said.
- The doorknobs.
- Excessive christmas decorations. I've grown really tired of the singing and dancing Tigger and Winnie The Pooh.
- Peanut butter + jelly.
+/-
- The weather. I love the snow, but I know it'll be raining again soon. I like the fact though that it's not too cold.
- The food. Mostly it's good, but sometimes.. oh boy. By the way, I really miss all the christmas foods, macarone casserole (or pasta in a box, as they say in the big world of TECHNOPOLIS), Salmiakki and finnish bread / rolls. Mmmmmm.
Hmh. I'm feeling like I'm missing everyone back home. Come and visit me, eh?

New housemates, pot, and tattoo thoughts
Hallo meine damen und herren. Jetzt wir ska prata om nya hausfreunden. That's right, today Lars (or Jens) arrived. I can't say for sure what his name is, since I've only heard it once, and I didn't want to listen to anything then, so.. I'm sure I'll learn it pretty fast tho, so don't you worry. Lars (or Jens) is from Germany. Lars (or Jens) came here to our house, because he was kicked out from his previous homestay family. Lars (or Jens) sounds like a real treat to have here living with us! I won't judge him before I get to know him though, since that would be rude, and I am not rude. Not in the slightest of ways. Actually, I'm so polite and thoughtful that I actually made a nazi/jew-joke today and laughed at it for five minutes when I started thinking about the situation that the joke implied. Here's what makes me so polite - I didn't say it out loud, even though people at the office asked what I was laughing about. Instead, I had to come up with another thing, since I didn't know if Eliviu or Siavash or Derrick are Jews (or Nazis). The line I came up with, and I kid you not, went like this: "I just saw two seagulls fighting over a pizza crust."
..
..
I mean come on. That's so lame. The guys' expression was pretty priceless, like "What the fuck is he smoking, and where can I get it.." Speaking of smoking, I gotta say, weed is everywhere here. People smoke it in the public like it's nothing, and practically the whole west side of the downtown area smells like pot. I think if you really tried, you could get high by just breathing in really deep. I've had three guys come up to me, asking if I wanted to buy weed. "Yo dude, you wanna buy some high class weed? It's amazing maaan, you gotta try this shit! Yo brah, it's real cheap as well!" Um.. yeah. I wonder why it's so openly available here and so prohibited in Finland? Are the legislative people here so young and hip that they don't believe all the "there have been instances of marijuana related overdose deaths"-hype? Dave, the "man of the house", told me that he'd been smoking pot almost every day for almost 10 years, and that it's really common in here. I know for a fact that in Britain it's also really common, and I'm sure it's pretty much the same in almost every western country, Scandinavia excluded. People really should have a right to choose whether or not they want to smoke weed, just like they have a right to choose whether or not they want to drink alcohol or smoke cigarrettes. I hear it causes much less deaths than the two products mentioned above, so.. Oh well.
I still love my tattoo. I think I kinda messed up the initial wash-up, so there's some dryed up blood / scabbing in the yellow star.. hope it doesn't fade the colors too much. Other than that it's all good. I bought a new bottle of moisturizer, which is unscented as instructed, but it kinda looks like.. well, I won't say it, but it helps in making babies. It's also really, um.. un-thick, so I guess it's another trip to the drug store for me :D maybe I'll ask someone for help this time.
I also sent out some cards yesterday, so if you think you might be getting one, please expect it. NIKO, JOHNNY AND KATRIN, please send me your addresses! I want to send you each a card, but couldn't do it yet.
Speaking of Johnny, I guess I'll include him in the miss my peeps-section. It's really soon and sudden, I know, but he's such a silly cunt I have to do it.
The thing I miss the most about Johnny is the great talks about movies, music and all things interesting. And you know what, we have to do that Bowling For Soup-duet again, since my voice was gone the last time ;)
Alright, I hope this eases the morning angst of at least one un-named person, and helps the person in question to wake up better and to not be so grumpy. I think the person in question is too happy to be grumpy, if that made any sense. Don't be so grumpy without a reason, it'll give you wrinkles!
I think I'm gonna go downstairs to eat and learn more about this lederhosen wearing, sauerkraut eating, Die Alte watching, Kraftwerk listening son of a gun Lars! (or Jens.)

Tattoo

It's done! YAY. IT HURT LIKE A MOTHERF... no, it actually wasn't even that bad. The first 60 seconds were a bit annoying, but I got used to the stinging feeling really quickly after that and it wasn't a big deal. The yellow star and the ends of the lines hurt a bit though, but it was nothing serious.
I can't really put my head around the fact that this tattoo will be there for the rest of my life. I don't know when it'll sink in, but I'm sure it'll be soon. I've heard of people who've gotten something of a mental hangover a few days afterwards, but it has gone away quickly and the appreciation of the tattoo has come back.
I have to say that Billy of Inkspot did an amazing job with this, and was very friendly on top of it. I'm just terrified that I'm gonna botch the aftercare somehow and this thing will just stick to my sheets and vanish from my skin :D fingers crossed that that won't happen. My forearm's a bit sore now, but I'm sure it's gonna pass soon as well.
By the way, does anyone know what it'll do if I moisturize my tattoo with a mildly scented lotion instead of a completely unscented one? I think this Nivea thing has a mild scent to it, although I'm not totally sure. Shit, I should've used these lotions more often before.. wish Niko would've taught me how.
Nothing more really happened this weekend, so there's not much to write about. I think I'll just add another person to my miss-list and be done with it!
The thing I miss the most about Olli is the non-stop bashing and trashtalking.. you twat.
I hope tomorrow will be action packed, so that I wont just be admiring my arm the whole day.. At least I should get to design a christmas card for Pro.Net :D that'll be fun.

BLAH. I don't know why but I feel really BLAH right now. I don't really feel like writing, but I have to since I don't want to be whipped.. so this one's for you Heinä (yes, I read it.)
Nothing big has happened in the last few days, I guess life's gone back to normal after the initial shock and excitement. Now it's just "aww fcuk, I have to get up to go to work, eww crap there's only whipping cream for my cereal (YES, THEY FREAKING HAVE WHIPPING CREAM INSTEAD OF MILK ON SOME MORNINGS :S), oww shit it's raining, ahh c-word, the bus is full" etc. The work is fun though, so it's not so bad.
Speaking of work, I've been really, really busy this week. I realized today that I haven't been able to speak to, umm, anyone really in a long time properly. Hopefully the weekend will patch things up in that aspect, I'm beginning to miss people too much. I guess that's one of the reason I beel so BLAH today as well.
We had some snow today, but it melted really fast and turned to a heavy rainfall. I had some issues again with the local people and their way to handle their umbrellas. See, when all around you is too small (I'm not too tall, as I explained this once before to Henna), the umbrellas bound to be too low as well. They keep flailing around near my eyes, and there's been a couple of instances where I've almost had a sharpened ninja umbrella pummeled straight into my vision. Today was no different, there was this 160cm Asian fellow who came from behind me in such pace it would've made Usain Bolt not care at all but still it was fast. I didn't mind him, since I was in the zone listening to my mp3-player and cussing in my mind because I was soaking wet (I don't own one of those eye-poking devices yet). Well, this chap decides to stop in the lights when it was just blinking red (that means you still have plenty of time to cross). I of course was prepared to walk over, so when the Asian gentleman blocked my way, I almost walked straight into his death device. Luckily my cat-like reflexes saved me this time, but tomorrow can be a different story. I have to stay alert and keep my cool, and I will be alright. I would like to end my blog here by saying something like "This is Miika reporting from the rainy shores of Vancouver, good night!", but I wont do that.
Instead I will stop now.
No, I still have a couple of things.. first, the thing I miss the most about Katrin is partying with her! She's a blast :D
41 hours until I get my tattoo!
ill blogz backz laterz if needz be

Tuesday night madness (I know, I'm a day behind with these titles)
Whad up, whad up??
I don't know if this blog is going to be long, but I just feel like writing something.
I'm anxiously waiting for Sunday and my tattoo. I went to a drug store today to get some antibacterial soap and some moisturizing cream for the aftercare. I bought about 10 litres each (not really that much; I just like to overexaggerate), since they didn't have any small bottles. Luckily they were only about $5 each, so it wasn't so bad.
My working day was hectic today. I finished my assignments, mainly the Oceaner.com layout and the newsletter thing. Now I'm just waiting for comments from the clients, which may take a while.. I also heard a rumour that I might get my thesis topic soon. Paul, the other owner of the company, wants to redesign the Pro.Net website, and he was thinking that I can get creative and come up with the new look all by myself :O That's a huge boost for my confidence, I guess they must've liked what I've done so far. That would also get me a great thesis topic, although not a very long one.. of course I could always write about the history of the company, about the tools I use etc, so 50 pages, HERE I COME :D
As an interesting sidenote, Brenda is taking a shower right next to my room, and I can hear the water running really clearly and loudly. Still, I can hear the freaking cat meowing downstairs!! SHITNUGGETS. I've grown to hate that cat. She almost makes me hate all cats.. Almost. They still got some hope in my books though.
On to the best news of today - Henna got some great news from Canada today :) I like to think that my little visit to the company helped them get their asses moving on this thing. I'm just stoked for her, she's wanted this for a pretty long time and now it's becoming a reality *knock on wood*. Hopefully everything will turn out fine and she gets to come here during January. That way she'll be back home in time for the big party on May Day! By the way, Ms. Pimpette and the rest of you, hopefully you've started the arrangements already. I'm expecting a hell of a party ;)
I'm laughing my ass off here to this awesome show, called Ghost Hunters or something like that. This "documentary" series has got to be the funniest thing in a while, and the best part is that they don't even try to be funny :D Speaking of TV, it's really almost unbearable to watch TV in here. It's almost like you're watching channels full of commercials, with some tv in the middle somewhere. I was watching South Park yesterday, and it had 4 commercial breaks. 4! That's ridiculous. I miss finnish TV (or more so I miss a decent computer and a fast internet connection).
The thing I miss the most about Pete are the general "let's hang out and shoot the shit"-moments. Also I haven't had a decent wrestling opponent in here. I know that that's two things, but rules are meant to be broken, so haha!
I should be going to a pub tonight to hang out with Pia and the rest of her posse since they're having a sort of a goodbye party, but I can't be bothered.. I'm too tired, and I know that if I go tonight, I am not going to be able to get up in the morning. So Pia, if you're reading this, I'm sorry! Oh and have a great weekend in Panorama!
I'm off to take a shower (and clean the bathroom afterwards, sigh) and watch some commercials afterwards.. You bozos take care, and I'll talk to you laterz

monday night madness
'allo my dear avid readers and all the other scumbags out there!
Today was a good day. Even though I woke up like a little baby, or Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty, all kicking and screaming, everything was pretty good after that. I didn't have to wait for the bus longer than 25 seconds, the seabus wasn't full, I got soaked on the way to work (okay, that wasn't that great..), and work was okay as well. I'd finished the construction layouts (three of them) and sent them to the boss, who in turn sent them to the customer. The boss gave me another task that I'd never done before, and that was to design a newsletter to an engineering company. I did that as well, but it might be reasonable to say that I might have been able to do it faster.. But since that was the only assignment for me today, I thought that I might as well do some facebooking in the side.
I chatted with Henna and Niko for a good while, and learned that one of them is designing a new tattoo and the other one is still very easily amused, and goes to this weird "He-Bul"-land in the dark corners of her head very often. I leave the guessing game to you, although the "her head" might've given something away. Luckily you all aren't that bright, so there's a nice little noodlescratcher for you!
I went to the tattoo place today (which is Inkspot by the way, www.tattoosbybilly.com, and we decided that I'm going to get my tattoo on the 14th (that's NEXT SUNDAY) at 1pm (that's 23.00 finnish time). Niiiiiice. I can't wait!
Before I went to the tattoo place, I went to this weird, weird place where Henna's internship placement headquarters is located. It was a futuristic cafe/office-thing, where everyone seemed to be bald and seemed to have pretty much exactly the same glasses that I have. That was really creepy, and it didn't help at all that when I got there, I was greeted by one of those bald yahoos, and was then whiskered to an office of another bald yahoo, and was then forwarded to this little glass room with a kind of a space theme in it, and was told to wait for a sec. Well, maybe a good ten minutes later ANOTHER bald dude came in, and said that this fourth dude will be right with me. After five minutes in came this little man (who wasn't bald), who had probably the deepest voice I've ever heard :D It was like I was in a really bad sci-fi movie. Anyway, the dude turned out to be a pretty decent fellow, and he seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say ("Hurry up with her application, I won't take no for an answer, yes she can talk english, yes I know this was very sweet of me" etc) He said that they'd make her their priority number one, since I did such a nice thing for her :D cool! Now she owes me a HUGE MEGAFAVOUR.
I can't think of anything else to say, except that I have to go to the bathroom and I feel a bit tired. I bet that was a piece of information you all wanted to hear, am I right? And just to test you, like if you're reading or not, please tell me what the crap should I do with this laptop? Should I just plain ol' format it and illegaly download all the programs again, or just try to fight with my dozen antivirus programs? This piece of shit has a million plus one spywares etc. in it, and I haven't even had the chance yet to visit any adult sites! It takes ages to turn on, ages to surf the internet, and I keep losing my nerve with all the popups. AND I OFFICIALLY HATE AVAST! I jump out from my (very comfortable) chair (which is probably widdled from sticks in the 17th century) everytime the program finds a corrupted file and I have my headphones on. *siren goes off loudly* "A VIRUS HAS BEEN DETECTED!!" I'm waiting for the update where a soft female voice whispers gently in my ear "Hey you.. I just found a virus, want me to get rid of it, juuuust for you? After that I make you breakfast and clean the whole computer."
Yep.
The thing I miss the most about Pauliina is our rigorous board game sessions :D A spoon cookie (what a great translation.. I know I'm great.) is a dessert damnit!
Alright, talk to you spoon cookies laterz

One weird ass night
What the f :D I just had the craziest night in a looong time. First of all, I didn't get much sleep due to the crazy mothereffing cat was mourning the whole night, but the dreams I got were so freaking weird I can't even believe it. I can't remember it all, but for instance Niko had a butler (like a real Jeeves-kinda guy, old chap from England), who managed his movies and rented them out. Niko was pissed about it when he found out, and fired the guy on the spot. He then proceeded to sue Niko, and got all his movies. Then there was a cameo by this George Takei look-a-like, who apparently was the original voice of the son of the Jetsons (Elroy?). He had a talking dinosaur living with him. I also went on a cruise, where someone was murdered and I had to investigate it. It turned out that a vicious pack of dogs was living in somewhere on the boat, and they had been plotting to kill everyone on board.
I, err, don't know what to say.
Anyhoo, it's back to work for me. Laterzz

"Okay, just to let you guys know, I'm tired and a bit ill, so this entry will most probably have no point, no logic and no real informational value.. so it's nothing like my previous ones, which have been filled with the above mentioned things.

Okay, a new try. That previous one was an entry I started writing on Sunday, but couldn't finish it for the reasons mentioned in the first sentence.
So, when we got to the Korean restaurant, I had an enlightening moment - Koreans eat with sticks, not forks. After a really graceful training session, I managed to get some chicken and veggies into my mouth, but since I thought I might as well really eat since I'm paying, I ordered a fork and stuffed my belly with a nice meal. After that it was time to hit the nearby pub. It was a real Northern American-style bar, the kind you always see on tv. We had a blast there, and I even managed to add a new word to a lot of people's vocabulary - Kippis. Which was nice. This time I didn't even need help from those tiny buggers called Asian cabbies, since I followed Pia like a lost puppy. I also had my Skytrain-virginity taken from me.. luckily it was taken with a gentle touch.
Yesterday was amazing, weather-wise. The sun was shining the whole day, and I just had to go out and explore the wonderous town that is called North Vancouver. First I stopped by the nearby football field, when I heard noises coming from the vicinity (I guess that's a word). There was a ladies football match going on, and boy was it funny to watch :D The average weight of the players was somewhere near 80 kg, and I'd say that if you looked up "A Trucker Lesbian" in the dictionary, you'd find at least a few of those girls in there. They kept falling on their asses, missing the ball completely, and running like headless chickens. After I wiped the bloody tears from my baby bottom-like cheeks, I walked around for a few hours, seeing new things and feeling really good. I almost fell in love with the combination of the weather and the scenery, but didn't. It was definately a crush though.
I almost got into a MILL (this is an inside-joke, hopefully someone gets it at least) in the skytrain station today! I was walking pretty fast, minding my own business and listening to my mp3-player. There was a group of slow walkers in front of me, so I kinda went through them, and said 'scuse me's and everything, you know, being very polite. Well, this nearby panhandler (which there are quite a few in here, but mostly they just keep to themselves) started yelling stuff like "What did you say? Hey man, get back here, I know you said something!". I kept my cool, and tossed him one of the loose dollars I had in my pocket. The almost toothless smile on his face would've melted the icy heart of the Ice Queen of Ice Land in the Galaxy of Ice, that's how happy he was. I guess I have to remember that tactic if I ever have to handle some pans.
What else.. Oh right, I went to a few tattoo places today, and picked the one I liked the most. I have to print out my design tomorrow and take it to the guy, and he can ink me already on the next Saturday or Sunday :O so I'm pretty much only a few days away from my first ever tattoo... Sweet. I hope mom reads this and gives me a two thumbs up.. which I'm sure she'll do, since she wanted me to get something nice for myself for christmas. So HAHAH mom, this is the something nice :P
Um.. Hmm. I'm sure I had something else I wanted to write about, but can't seem to remember it anymore. Oh well, I'll just update this if I remember what it was.
The thing I miss the most about Henna is her .
Was that too much and sappy and cheesy and "blaaah" and silly and all that? Yeah. Sue me.

What is up, my home boys and girls?
Today was my last working day of the week, obviously. Let us now take a look at my first official week as an intern at Pro.Net.
Monday: I did nothing.
Tuesday: I don't remember anymore.
Wednesday: I did something with Photoshop.
Thursday: I remember like it was yesterday. Photoshopped something ocean-ish.
Friday: Again, the ocean thing.
As you may or may not see, I am not in a blog-writing mood now. My mental strenght seem to have been drained by the hard working week I have been enduring. I will continue this effort tomorrow morning when I wake up, so until then, arrivi..ariverd.. C-WORD!
Ah right, the missing my peeps.
The thing I miss the most about Andee is his infamous catch phrases.
Update my blog? Yes, maybe tomorrow!

Hot damn! That was a pretty hefty lunch. I just got home from an Indian place, where we went to eat and to kinda celebrate (I know it's the wrong word, but you know what I mean) Jorge's final days in Canada. We all went (me, Pia, Jorge, Dave and Brenda), and had a good time. The food was awesome, and I, being the way that I am, ate way too much. Luckily though I wasn't the only one, so I don't have to carry the burden of shame alone.
Today was a pretty good day concerning work also. I got some new info about the construction dude, but couldn't do anything about it since I got to work on another project. I have to redesign a scuba diving website, which shouldn't be too hard since the current one is pretty "nineties", to put it nicely. I almost finished it today, and I'm actually loving it so far - it's one of my best work in a while.
One thing I'm anxiously waiting (and trying to influence) is Henna's visa thingy. I'm trying to do anything and everything I can think of to make it as easy for her as possible, so she can get her ass here asap. So far she's done at least one and a half things, which is pretty good :D I'm waiting for updates from her part, so while we're waiting, why not add another person to my blog.
The thing I miss the most about Viv.. err, Antero, is his stupid (awesome) jokes.
I'm so tired from the meal that I think I'm just gonna hop on to the bed and watch Family Guy. I laughed so hard just a minute ago to this :D
laterzz
ps. I just had my first ever glass of egg nog. I'm still largely undecided if I like it or not.

Third time's a charm
One more for today and I'm done, I swear. I just got to the house, and I'm now about $120 poorer but I own two new pairs of shoes (2 pairs for $60!) and a new hoodie-jacket, which should keep me warm, but not TOO warm during the winter months. Man do I hate shopping, especially in a place where all the cool stuff is stored near the ceiling like four meters higher than I can reach. I'm gonna have to go back to that place when I'm not feeling so confrontational, and ask the guys behind the counter to get the ladder, pick out the shirt I want, come back down and give it to me, then take it back when I see it's something I don't want, pick something else for me, bring it down etc.
I'm also thinking about going to the different tattoo parlors with my design, and asking them how much would it cost to have it on my arm (forearm, but on the outside). If you haven't seen it, go to HERE and check it out.
I have to point out now that I've never wanted to strangle a cat before, but Sissy is really, REALLY, annoying when she wakes me up in the goddamned middle of the night by meowing her guts out. GRAAAAAAH. She's meowing as I'm writing this, and it just drives me crazy. Her meows don't even sound like a normal cat would sound, those are evil meows. Oh god how I want her to stop that.. It's so freaking annoying. Normally I like cats, but normally they don't sound like they got the devil in them. SHITSHITSHITSHITSHIT it's driving me crazy. Now she's behind my door, and I think she heard me. Damn.. Don't get me wrong, she's really okay when she's quiet, but that voice that keeps coming out of her is probably the most annoying thing I've ever heard. Even more so than this: The most annoying toy ever.
Anyhoo, today's a double whammy, since I'm about to let you in another rendition of "I miss my peeps".
The thing I miss the most about Niko the unparallel mental connection that we have. Great minds indeed do think alike.
Alright, laterzzzuh~

Haha, I managed to make her update her blog! I'm so great, I'm so great.. I'm awesome. I should be working now, but the boss is out again and I've done everything that can be done at this point in time. Man I'm good. Still I feel a bit guilty about not doing anything, but hey, I'm an intern. That's what we do. Sit around and do all the stuff that isn't meaningful in any way (after all, I saw the original e-mail where the construction dude ordered his website and it was sent in early October :D). Yay.
When I get off (in two hours), I'll go out and find myself a new pair of jeans. And some shoes. And if I feel like it, a new jacket. Haha by the way, I didn't wear my thick jacket today to work. I'm blending in with the locals by wearing just a hoodie.. Give me two weeks and call me Canadian!
Again, more stuff coming later on. Since this was a little longer than the previous one though, I thought I'd continue with the "What I miss about my peeps"-series.
The thing I miss the most about Sanna is her sweetness / kindness (it's the same thing, not two different things!).

How and why do people wear (short) shorts in here? I know it's still on the plus side of the scale and all and yeah you're the coolest surfer dude or hard rocker around here, but still. STOP IT, it's really weird! You're also making me feel like I'm overdressed with my really warm jacket and long trousers. Jeez.
Now that I got that thing sorted out (I'm watching you punks!), I can talk about the more pressing issues. I don't really know what they are, but anyway. I had my first day at work where I had to actually do something, and it went pretty well. I had to start designing a website layout for this construction dude, who wants his site to look like that of his three main competitiors' sites. The funny thing is that I've no idea who this guy is, what's his business called, what does his logo look like, what colors would he prefer, and the list goes on. The boss just said that "yeah yeah, make up a few templates and we'll see what he thinks of them." Um, okay? Also what was funny was the fact that the first three hours I worked on the thing not actually knowing for sure what I was doing and if I had to do that. The boss was very busy talking on the phone, and I didn't want to interrupt him by being a dumbass like "uh, yeah, sir, i know I said I understood you, but, uh, can you like, uh, explain the whole thing to me, uh, again.. sir?" Luckily I'd understood him correctly on the first time, so yeah, I was again stressing without a reason to do so. Go me.
Today was pretty shitty in a way that I only got to speak to Niko and Henna for a short while on facebook, since the other boss (the one who had a baby yesterday) came back to the office, and sat right behind me. I need my daily dose of the random shit that those two pull off, and now that I didn't get it, I feel like I'm missing something! And you know that I don't wanna close my eyes, and I don't wanna fall asleep 'cause I miss you babies, and I don't wanna miss a thing.
I know that one of you is also writing a blog, so I can check up what's happening with her if I don't catch her on msn or facebook. The others though, who should feel the infamous sting in their hearts right about now, who don't write a blog, I'd love to hear from you. What's up, what've you been up to etc. E-mail, facebook's personal message, a text message - it's all good. Just keep me in the loop! :P
Since I mentioned the "missing my peeps" earlier, I wanna start a new section to this blog. I'll name a person at the end of every entry, and I'll name the one thing I miss about him or her the most. I'll start with the PÖDC-crew, since my mom knows I miss everything about her :)
The thing I miss the most about Anne is her laughter.
Alright, that's that for tonight. See you (I wish :l ) the next time!

First impressions on the downtown area, life in general and my exciting first day at work!
Hi.
My first days here were a bit of a shock, in every way. The house rules seemed too much, the weather was unbearable (although I'd gotten used to it back in Finland), and the overall vibe was just not there. Luckily my housemate Pia took me under her wing immediately, and took me to see a movie, which later turned out to be a total chick flick. Anyway it was really cool of her to kinda show me around the transit system a bit, and also introduce me to some of her school friends later at the pub. They all seemed really nice, like everybody here. Must be something in the tap water..
Speaking about the trip to the pub, I almost got lost on my way back to North Van. I took the wrong turn, and missed the last seabus of the night. I walked back to the pub to find my other housemate, Jorge, but couldn't see him anywhere. I almost panicked, but luckily, being the cool cat that I am, decided not to. Instead I calmly walked further downtown in search of that night bus that I'd heard so much about, but hadn't seen it with my own eyes. After a bit of wandering around and waiting for it at a random bus stop, I decided it was time to panic. I didn't show it to anyone though, since IT'S A GODDAMN JUNGLE OUT THERE - A REAL DOG EAT DOG SITUATION!! Not really, but I just liked saying that. After a tedious wait that seemed to last forever but was actually something like 5 minutes, a taxi just stopped right in front of me. I swear I could hear the angel choir singing when the driver popped the front window down and asked me in the coolest of Asian accents - "whichhwayyougoin??" I wanted to kiss that little Asian man right then and there, but decided that maybe I'd save that for a later date. So to sum it all up, I got home safely. Thank god for Asian cabbies!
Today was my first day at Pro.Net. I went in prepared, and you can only imagine my feelings when the boss arrived and said that he can't stay, since the other boss, his brother, is having a baby (his wife was doing the actual having, but anyway), and he must go to the hospital to be with them. He said that I should sit tight, and just wait for a bit, that he'd be back soon and he'd tell me of my duties. I waited, and waited, and chatted to the one person who's keeping me sane during the days (more on that later) on Facebook, and then waited a bit more. The boss finally came back in, only to tell me that he has to see a client, and would talk to me more tomorrow :D THANKS! Anyway, I sat through the rest of the day chatting with Henna and the other dudes at work, and at four o'clock left for the orientation meeting over at InterneX. I waited in their office for about half an hour, and then had the orientation with a dude named Houtan. Houtan seemed really cool and supportive, again I blame the water or something. Anyway, hopefully the business will pick up tomorrow, and I get to do some actual graphics designing.
I have to say THANK YOU to Henna for chatting with me during the days, while screwing up her sleeping pattern at the same time. She's really kept me sane and helped me keep the home sickness to a minimum. She's the best.
I should probably get some rest now after the hard days work, so laterzzz
